Eierlegende Wollmilchsau!

Last week while I was in a lecture about proteins and proteomics, I learnt a new German word!

I think it might be my new favourite!

(Although technically, it’s two words, which seems odd when the Germans usually just add everything together and say it really fast).

As you can guess from the picture, our little Eierlegende friend is a pig-cow-chicken-sheep hybrid.

Literally, an ‘egglaying wool-milk-pig’.

The English version is ‘jack-of-all-trades’, but who even uses that anymore?

Here, the Deutsch triumphs! Although apparently it’s not really a very flattering thing to be called.
